Barbie and The Simpsons on the list of Iran’s banned toys

Children in Iran have it really difficult. First they banned Barbie and now also the Simpsons figurines.

Iranian Institute for the intellectual development of children and adolescents has created a list of toys that are said to be dangerous to the healthy development of Iranian children. How can the Barbie doll harm children? We also played with it. But in Iran, there is strict adherence to the Koran and all women must wear a headscarf and modest dress. Barbie doesn’t meet these criteria at all. Therefore, Iran introduced on the Iranian market traditionally dressed dolls Dara and Sara, but they didn’t have a great success and Barbie is still smuggled across the border in large quantities.

But in what are the recently banned Simpsons inappropriate for children? The reason is that they promote Western culture and disrupt the identity of the next generation. Children must be protected from harmful influence of the West. It is interesting that Superman and Spiderman can still be sold in the country as a model of heroes who helped the oppressed...

Whether their intention to protect children from Western influence is successful or not is questionable, since the Iranians, meanwhile, have learned very well how to get what they want on the black market ... including toys.
